Fetus influencing mother??

My wife is carrying and she is in her second trimester now. I noticed some changes in her lifestyle during the first trimester.

- She is a vegetarian, but she started saying that she wants to eat non-vegetarian food, especially chicken.
- She never liked more spicy food, but she started eating more spicy food
- She started to stretch herself in the bed

All the above are actually my characteristics. I really don't know how she changed like this.

I just have a thought - when a fetus inherits the characteristics from the parents, why can't the mother who carries the fetus/baby for 9 months inherit the characteristics of the fetus? i.e. indirectly the characteristics of the father?

I googled and tried to confirm this...But could not find any information in the internet except this article

This article clearly says - Mothers undergo permanent changes during pregnancy, in which they “inherit” some characteristics of the child they carry and, through the child, also receive some characteristics of the father.

Any ideas??

First look at Zemanta

Couple of weeks back I started writing blogs. It is very difficult to add links wherever required and also writing relevant tags.

Today I came across Zemanta (which has launched its alpha release today). It has developed a facility for blogs to suggest contextually relevant links, pictures, related content and tags using an internally developed semantic analysis engine. It also builds links to related stories.

I heard a lot about semantic web. Today I got a chance to experience the semantic web based application for the first time. It is GREAT!!

Zemanta doesn't support Opera which is my primary browser. It supports Firefox only. So I've installed Zemanta plugin in Firefox and start writing my blog. It was great. As soon as I've completed about 300 words, it has listed relevant tags, relevant links and relevant images.. I've just selected them. Then it has given the wonder. My blog looks good now.

Zemanta claims that they give these...

* Pleasure: it's fun to see your words paired with great links and pix
* Content: Pictures, Links, Articles and Tags
* Convenience: no more trolling the web for content for your posts
* Traffic: links to recent blog posts frequently result in return traffic

Yes. it is...thanks to Zemanta..

Google Android - First impression

Source: WikipediaI thought of exploring Google android for a long time. Finally yesterday I've downloaded the Android platform.

First I've tried to download it using Opera browser. I was thinking that Opera's transfer is very good. But it got stuck in the middle of the downloading 79MB file. Then i had to switch to Firefox to download it.

Today I had gone through the documents. Document is very good. I got a clear picture about the Anatomy about Android. It gives a good idea to start writing applications for Android.

After this i was playing with the Android emulator. It is simply great. I was going through the APIs demo. It supports wide varieties. Someone who has some idea can easily create their applications. Few problems are it didn't not support direct call to real phone, bluetooth etc. I think OpenMoko's emulator supports most of the hardware features also. That was really great.

Now the world is realising the need for the mobile platform and the business opportunities. But I feel proud that I've worked on this concept about eight years back. I was involved in developing the complete win32 emulation layer for a leading RTOS. It was very fun to support 256 priority levels using the available limited number of priority levels in Windows. And great fun to take control of Windows scheduler to implement the RTOS emulator. And fun to watch multiple RTOS instances running on the Windows NT system. But the sad part is that now both the RTOS and the mobile manufacturer are not in the market.

Now, I am using my Nokia 6630 and feel very much happy with it. When i get bored exploring this I might switch to Android based phone. It looks like the first Android based phone will be released in September by Samsung.

Modu - WOW!

Last time when I saw the news about modu, I didn't give more important to this. In fact, that news article was not clear and didn't have much information about this Modu. I thought it is some slim mobile module and some vendors can make use of it to develop some innovative products.

Today I got a chance to visit their website, and got a WOW feeling. The concept is very good. In fact few months back, I had read a similar concept in Nokia's research area. But I could not fully visualize this at that time. Modu gives clear picture about this concept.

Modu can be fit into different jackets or mates. When a modu is connected to the mobile jacket, it will act as the mobile. When it is fit into GPS receiver jacket, it will act as the navigator.

All modus are the same – it’s the jackets and mates that change. This universal compatibility allows for sharing of modu jackets and mates, and even developing mates that have multiple modu slots.

some jackets - modu gaming console, music player, car infotainment, storage, photo viewer, video player etc.

It’s time to modu!

Raghuvaran passes away

Today when i saw Raghuvaran's face in the TV news, i thought something happened to his. Yes, he has passed away this morning (March 19, 2008). I like his acting and the way he delivers the dialogues. This will be biggest loss for Tamil film industry. For the past few years, he was not seen in many movies.

Some of his movies that I've liked are Puriyatha Puthir, Manithan, Raja chinna Roja, attakasam, baatsha, Anjali, Muthalvan etc.

The World Cafe

Last week i had a chance to attend a workshop on Risk Management. It was very great and more interactive. I had a nice time to identify risks using some practical games.

In this workshop, I was introduced to the wonderful conversational process called The World Cafe (TWC). If you can change the conversation, you can change the future.

The crisp info is that there will be five tables and each table will have 5 members. One person in each table will be treated as a host. His responsibility is to collate the discussion on the given topic. After timeout, the host will stay on the table and others will be moved to the next table. Now the host will invite new set of peoples and identify the new host. The old host will explain already discussed matters and the discussion will continue. This process will continue till each group has sit on all tables at least once.

At the end of this cycle, each table will have wonderful data collated. I think this process is a great process to get the opinions from the group of people in terms of preparing a proposal, or making some decision. I am seriously thinking of using this in the future.

Some info from http://www.theworldcafe.com/what.htm:

World Café as a conversational process based on a set of integrated design principles that reveal a deeper living network pattern through which we co-evolve our collective future.

As a conversational process, the World Café is an innovative yet simple methodology for hosting conversations about questions that matter. These conversations link and build on each other as people move between groups, cross-pollinate ideas, and discover new insights into the questions or issues that are most important in their life, work, or community. As a process, the World Café can evoke and make visible the collective intelligence of any group, thus increasing people’s capacity for effective action in pursuit of common aims.

The integrated design principles have been distilled over the years as a guide to intentionally harnessing the power of conversation for business and social value. When used in combination, they provide useful guidance for anyone seeking creative ways to foster authentic dialogue in which the goal is thinking together and creating actionable knowledge.

As a living network pattern, the World Café refers to a living network of conversations that is continually co-evolving as we explore questions that matter with our family, friends, colleagues, and community. The metaphor of the "World as Café" helps us notice these invisible webs of dialogue and personal relationships that enable us to learn, create shared purpose, and shape life-affirming futures together.

Shepherd and an IT Consultant

Recently I read a forward mail. I feel it is really true!!

Once upon a time there was a shepherd looking after his sheep on the side of a deserted road. Suddenly a brand new Porsche screeches to a halt.
The driver, a man dressed in an Armani suit, Cerutti shoes, Ray-Ban sunglasses, TAG-Heuer wrist-watch, and a Pierre Cardin tie, gets out and asks the Shepherd: If I can tell you how many sheep you have, will you give me one of them?"

The shepherd looks at the young man, and then looks at the large flockof grazing sheep and replies: "Okay."

The young man parks the car, connects his laptop to the mobile-fax, enters a NASA Webster, scans the Ground using his GPS, opens a database and 60 Excel tables filled with logarithms and pivot tables, then prints out a 150 page report on hishigh-tech mini-printer. He turns to the shepherd and says, "You have exactly 1,586 sheep here."

The shepherd cheers,"that's correct, you can have your sheep."

The young man makes his pick and puts it in the back of his Porsche. The shepherd looks at him and asks: "If I guess your profession, will you return my animal to me?" The young man answers, "Yes, why not".

The shepherd says, "You are an IT consultant ".
How did you know?" asks the young man.

"Very simple," answers the shepherd. "First, you came here without being called. Second, you charged me a fee to tell me something I already knew, and third, you don't understand anything about my business...
Now can I have my DOG back?"

Opera Rocks

I have been using Opera Mini on mobile for more than two years. I was very much impressed by this browser on my mobile.

I never thought of trying this browser on the desktop. But three months back, i thought of giving a try . So I downloaded and started using it. This was really good. First i was impressed by the speed and the quick links. I am very much happy with the feeds feature. I don't need to go for a separate RSS viewer to read my feeds. Also it treats all feeds as a mail. So i can share the news/feeds just like forwarding mails.

Quick tabs, quick search also are very good features. Another good feature is the integrated mail client. I don't need to use any other tool to check mails. Everything is integrated. I can just open one browser, and do all what i want to do! great right..

I've heard that mouse gestures feature also is very good. But I am yet to get comfortable with this feature.

Last week, I've tried Opera Mobile on my mobile. It is too good. I can open multiple windows in my mobile and switch between those windows like browsing in desktop! It gives total web experience on my mobile. This is a commercial version. It will cost 22$ per license. It is a bit costly but worth to have it on mobile. May be i will consider buying it when i upgrade my mobile.

Next Generation Calendar

After so many calls and reminders today Faber's service guys visited my home for Chimney cleanup. They did a good job. They've cleaned our chimney nicely. Only problem with them is that they will not turn up as promised :) It has to be cleaned for every six months. I am very bad in remembering this and do it on time.

I was thinking about how people use to remember all these. I've seen people they use to mark it in their monthly calendar. But now i am hardly seeing the paper calendars (daily sheets, monthly sheets) in the current generation houses.

It would be good if we have a small digital calendar gadget. It should be capable of adding reminders and showing the calendar details. It should be able to sync with other gadgets (mobiles, laptops, PCs etc) at home. Also it can play some music to remind some events - it can play configurable music like happy birthday song for birthday events etc.

If it can tell daily horoscope too it can attract wide range of audiences :)

Anyway now we don't have this kind of device. So i've created a reminder for next cleanup in Google calendar. Google is doing good job in integrating natural languge processing in their Google calendar. Last time when i tried this feature, i was too impressed. Today i tried to create an event like "after 6 months chimney cleanup". But it could not understand this. it has created an event called "after chimney cleanup" for the 6 months duration. Then i had to manually update this event. Understanding natural language processing is not an easy task right!

BodyMaps A Human Atlas

Last week, i came across a new website - http://www.bodymaps.org/. It is a very good website. It gives good idea about the human anatomy.

Search for a word and seek in audio player

Yesterday I had a chance to attend the talk about "Next Generation Web". It was really good to know about the future of web - web 2.0, web 3.0, semantic web etc. I was thinking that it would be good to record the entire session in an audio format.

Later i was thinking about navigating the audio file, if the audio file's duration is for more than three hours it will be difficult to seek the interesting portion of the audio. The traditional way
of seeking like forward and backward may not be user friendly to the user. If i remember some
key word in the audio file, can i use this to seek to the place where this is discussed.

For example, in text reader (like browser, notepad) we use scroll bar to navigate to the page.
This is similar to using forward and backward in the audioplayer. In text reader, we use find to
reach the exact location the interested portion of text. it would be good if this feature is available
in the audioplayer also? don't you think so? i don't know whether it is available or not.
Let me spend some time to find it..
